Ballston Spa, NY: Albany-Saratoga Speedway: April 29, 2019: Well, we should be headed into the third week of racing season. However, for the 18 year-old-driver of the Sharp Upholstery 21K, and most of the weekly competitors at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, they have yet to take a green flag feature lap.

Living in the Northeast means that the window for racing is only just so long. Drivers have worked countless hours all winter to get their cars ready to do battle. With the first whiff of spring, the track crews are out there working just as hard to prep everything for the next 5 months of weekly racing! However, for The Great Race Place, no one has really been able to show off that hard work! Heavy rains have ruined both the lid-lifter, the second attempt lid-lifter and last week’s program. For those of you keeping score, that’s mother nature, 3 and race fans, 0.

“All of us racers are fed up with mother nature at this point.” – Stephen Kneer

The only bright spot came on April 23 when Mother Nature allowed for warm up and heat races. Kneer was itching to get back behind the wheel and his Bicknell did not disappoint.

The new car felt great in both warm ups and the heat race.” – Stephen Kneer

The 21k was 22nd fastest in warm ups out of a field of 40 cars! He would line up 5th in the first heat.

“Our goal was to make sure everything worked on the car and to make the feature. I was fortunate enough to pull a good pill and have a decent starting spot. I missed an incident on lap one in the heat and was able to hold a transfer spot! All in all, Tuesday night was a very good night and I’m very excited to see how the rest of the year is going to go!” – Stephen Kneer

This Friday, we will try it all again!
